Rumors
Is not a rumor just an inkling of the truth? Rumors are truths muffled, mutilated or merely in disguise - truths in some form... Without rumors, we would not know where the truth was, or why; how then would we seek it? Rumors bring us news that there is a truth, and that we are curious for it.
If not for rumors, we would take the truth for granted. We would not ask questions like: Is it possible? Could it really be?

I hear it is. ;)
One is reminded of Shame -
Gossip is like water. It probes surfaces for their weak places, until it finds the breakthrough point; so it was only a matter of time before ...
BM, thanks! I've only really read and liked "Haroun and the Sea of Stories", I gave up on "Midnight's Children" a quarter of the way through. I'm put off by Rushdie's "splash", but he can be a very entertaining writer and story-teller. Maybe I should give "Shame" a try...
