I've always wondered why they're called pseudonyms. Since the function of a pseudonym is the successful obscuring of the original name, they ought to be called anonyms.
True pseudonyms are names like Cheshire Cat - where the assumed nature of the name is evident.
But isn't "anonym" just a pseudonym for "pseudonym"? Or maybe the other way around? Or maybe they're just synonymous?
As for "Cheshire Cat", that's more of a heteronym...
But isn't "anonym" just a pseudonym for "pseudonym"?
Well...let's just call it a nymble side-step, what?
